World Meningitis Day 2011

World Meningitis Day was held on April 24th around the World and advocates were asked to Join Hands against Meningitis. Help is still needed to help raise awareness and money to prevent this crippling and fatal disease, and to help support those who have already been affected.
Meningitis is the inflammation of the lining around the brain and spinal cord. Septicaemia is the blood poisoning form of the disease. The two forms of the disease have different symptoms and can kill in hours, particularly devastating is disease caused by bacteria called meningococcus. People who recover from meningitis and meningococcal disease may be left with a range of after effects that dramatically alter their lives.
The Confederation of Meningitis Organisations (CoMO) has been borne out of a need to unite across the world in the fight against Meningitis and Septicaemia.
