Immunize Houston

August 2008 Newsletter

We Are Growing!

In order to better serve our community we have changed our name from the Houston-Harris County Immunization Registry to Houston Area Immunization Partnership (HAIP).

This name change signals an expansion of our mission from supporting our local registry to eradicating vaccine-preventable diseases through development of public and private partnerships. In the first step of this process we conducted a pro-bono marketing study. Read More

Voice Your Opinion

We need your opinion. The Houston-Harris County Immunization Registry (HHCIR) is in transition and will eventually be replaced by ImmTrac. To ensure that this change does not impact the health and well being of Houston children HAIP has organized a Town Hall meeting for all immunization stakeholders.

Please come and voice your opinion! Read More

Did You Get Your Immunization Materials?

We mailed an introduction package to nearly 500 providers in the greater Houston area. Did you get yours? This package included:

  • Laminated 2008 Recommended Childhood Immunization Schedules (both full size and badge-size),
  • Screening questionnaires for Children and Teens,
  • An up-to-date list of CPT codes
  • Pens, lanyards and other items.

Clinics who received these packages expressed appreciation for them and plan to use them in their workflow.

To sign up for future mail-outs or to request immunization resources, please contact us.

Improve Your Immunization Rates

Houston Community College and the Houston Area Rotary Clubs have teamed up together to create a fellowship project that will place students part-time in immunization clinics in the Houston area to enter immunization records into registries and help implement an effective reminder/recall process.

Participating clinics must be authorized registry users, be committed to immunization best practices, and must demonstrate a plan to continue using reminder/recall.

Pre-Summit Stakeholder Meetings

Through the generosity of the St. David’s Foundation in Austin, HAIP has been holding a series of stakeholder meetings across the state to gather input from immunization providers, public health entities and other stakeholders about the immunization issues that are important to them to provide content for the upcoming Immunization Summit 2008. Please join us at the Houston meeting so that your opinion can be heard at the Summit this November. Read More

The Houston pre-summit stakeholder meeting is scheduled for August 27th at 4:00 at the United Way building at 50 Waugh Drive, Houston, TX 77007.

HAIP Launch Event

On April 24, the Houston Area Immunization Partnership launched its new mission, vision and scope of operations to a packed house at a Rotary sponsored luncheon.

Dr. Carol Baker, member of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) and noted author of the Red Book, spoke on “Immunizations: Truth or Consequences” and warned the crowd that the current backlash against immunizations in the media was very dangerous. She urged parents and providers to know the facts about the true risk of choosing not to immunize children and reminded the group that immunizations have been one of the most important public health measures to protect our community against vaccine preventable diseases.

After she spoke, the Houston Area Immunization Partnership awarded Frankie Milley, Founder of Meningitis Angels, with the first annual “Protector” award to recognize her dedication to protecting our community from deadly vaccine preventable diseases.
