The Immunization Champions program improves immunization rates in community clinics and private practices in the Houston area through the promotion and implementation of reminder/recall processes. By placing“Champions” in clinics and training them in reminder/recall processes, participating organizations have been able to improve vaccination coverage rates by an average of 33 percentage points.
Since 2009, Champions have screened over 50,000 immunization records and recalled more than 14,000 patients to come into clinics for immunizations.
By keeping the providers and staff involved in the process, clinics are able to sustain the processes long after the Champions have completed their specific project. The Champions -- often students pursuing training in the medical field -- gain invaluable experience in clinical settings, and carry the knowledge and confidence gained during their internship throughout their careers.
